New RedHat
Came across this link to an article on OSNews about Red Hat's newest beta, Severn.Doesn't look like there are too many changes, but the look and feel of Red Hat continues to improve.
The author says:
Please note that the screenshots below are showing the Gnome desktop using the high quality Vera TTF fonts, which I installed afterwards. The default Red Hat installation is still using the Sans fonts as in its previous versions.
Doing a search on google for "vera ttf fonts." RPMFind has Bitstream Vera TTF in an easy to install rpm package. They work in Mozilla and Firebird, too.
I'll probably wait a bit to test the new Red Hat version, but the desktop looks better than ever with the Vera font.

Shopping Spree
![]() |
Well I went on a shopping spree. I bought anEpson Printer. I was hesitant due to pevious experiences, but went ahead due to comments from a co-worker. A 99 dollar printer and 70 dollars in rebates. So a $30 printer is cheaper than what you can buy ink cartridges for. |
![]() | I also picked up a stereo receiver. I am going to split up my electronics into Video and Audio. The Video will be in one room while the Audio components in another. |
![]() | This looks like it might be able to compete with Apple's iPod. A big plus is for Windows users not requiring the jukebox software, and the iHP-100 appearing just like another drive in Windows Explorer. A couple of points to ponder, a 10GB iPod = $300, only Firewire, requires jukebox software, sleek design, no remote and 10GB iHP-100 = ?? estimated to be $500, digital optical input and output jacks, remote, large backlit screen. |

Best Buy Woes
|
BestBuy has Maxtor 120GB Hard Drives on sale. They're 129.99 plus tax, but you also get $60/$70 in rebates. I bought one yesterday and will get $70 in rebates, while the one bought today will only get $60. But their website is even different. Interesting? |

One check on the honey do list
Well this weekend I finished painting my grandmother's house. With the help of Sam the previous weekend, all I had left was two coats of paint on the trim in one room. Sunday was that second coat. Next on the list is to disassemble a barn and then reassemble across town.

New Play Toy
Well today we received a new toy at work. A Dell 2600 Server. Click on the image to enlarge.
The front bezel.
The drive configuration. Two hot-plug Ultra160 SCSI 10K RPM Cheetahs.
And the insides.
And this thing is a hoss.
This server is a P4 Xeon 2.8GHz. 1GB RAM. 2 36GB 10k RPM SCSI Drives in RAID (0) Config. Redundant Power Supplies.
I'll be playing with it more probably next week.
